SAB Vacancies – Brewing Operator
SAB is looking for a Brewing Operator to join our team. The Brewing Operator is responsible for safely operating one or more discrete processes within the Brewing & Utilities plant, such as Wort Cooling, Yeast Management, and Filtration. This role involves executing maintenance tasks, quality control checks and analyses, and coaching fellow team members to ensure the production of consistent, high-quality beer at optimal costs.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Plant and Process Operations
- Operate various processes within the Brew House, including Beverage Fermentation, Filtration, and Packaging (kegging and bottling).
- Perform housekeeping tasks, apply 5S principles, and follow safe work practices to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Identify and correct unsafe work practices to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Support the creation and documentation of standard work procedures.
- Quality Control and Analysis
- Conduct required quality checks and analyses, recording the results in the appropriate information systems.
- Apply problem-solving techniques to resolve quality issues, escalating unresolved problems to the Brewing Area Manager (BAM).
- Complete handovers with incoming shift team members, ensuring clear communication about plant performance and quality.
- Communication and Teamwork
- Actively participate in meetings, goal reviews, and shift handovers.
- Use communication tools such as shift logbooks to stay informed and share information with others.
- Collaborate with team members, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Problem-Solving
- Respond quickly to upstream or downstream triggers that could cause process disruptions.
- Apply problem-solving techniques, such as 5 Whys and quick-fix routines, to identify and correct problems.
- Work effectively in teams, developing skills and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Profile Requirements
- National Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Biotechnology.
- Completion of the Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) qualification is a plus.
- Ability to work shifts, including flexible hours and weekends, as required by production needs.
- Experience in a New Product Development (NPD) process environment.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- A team player with excellent communication skills and a drive for achievement.
