Job Description:
Join our team at Food Lovers Market as a Blockman! In this role, you will be responsible for cutting meat products to quality standards in accordance with production plans. Reporting directly to the Butchery Manager, this position requires flexibility to work different shifts, including Sundays and Public Holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Blockman, you will:
- Record the quantity of meat received and issued to cooks or maintain sales records for meat products.
- Perform precise and cost-effective cutting of various meat species, utilizing advanced deboning and cutting techniques to maximize output.
- Process and manufacture a variety of meat products, including sausages and minces.
- Operate specialized butchery equipment, including a bandsaw, with proficiency.
- Ensure adherence to cold chain principles and maintain ideal temperatures for storing meat products.
- Comply with relevant food safety regulations and meat legislation.
- Conduct block tests to determine costs and assist with production planning to maintain optimal stock levels of unprocessed and retail cuts.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic work area, ensuring all equipment is kept clean and in good working condition.
- Assist in managing waste and shrinkage within the department in line with budgetary constraints.
- Participate in weekly stock takes in the butchery.
- Communicate efficiently with colleagues and customers, using strong communication and time management skills to enhance workflow.
- Stay informed about promotions, advertisements, and current butchery trends and innovations.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment while demonstrating a willingness to adapt to new techniques and processes.
- Maintain high energy levels and work effectively under pressure.
Requirements:
To be considered for the Blockman position, you must have:
- Matric certificate.
- Experience as a Blockman or Butcher.
- Proficiency in English.
- Residence within 15 km of the job location.
- A clear criminal record.
Preferences:
While not mandatory, the following will enhance your application:
- South African citizenship.
- Grade 2 Meat Cutting Certificate.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Blockman in a butchery.
