Job Overview
The Automation Engineer is responsible for ensuring optimal availability and performance of plant automation and instrumentation systems. This role focuses on optimizing automation solutions and operator support tools to minimize downtime, improve operational efficiency, and support safe, reliable production. The Automation Engineer actively participates in breakdown response and preventative maintenance activities across the plant.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure high availability and reliability of plant automation and instrumentation systems

Optimize automation systems and operator aids to reduce downtime and improve efficiency

Perform breakdown troubleshooting and corrective maintenance on automation and control systems

Execute preventative maintenance activities to support continuous operations

Conduct technical root cause analysis to prevent recurring automation and instrumentation failures

Support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation, controls, and industrial IT systems
Qualifications

Qualified Instrument Technician

Diploma in Process Control and Instrumentation
Experience and Skills
-
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in instrumentation within an FMCG or food manufacturing environment

Strong exposure to technical root cause analysis methodologies

Proficiency with automation and control software, including Siemens Step 7, WinCC, WinCC Flex, Wonderware Window Viewer and Window Maker, GX Developer Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley ProLogix 5000, Siemens Starter, Siemens MicroWin, Siemens Simotion Scout, Siemens TIA Portal, Schneider PLC, and Mitsubishi PLC

Hands-on experience with industrial automation equipment, particularly Siemens S5 and S7 PLCs

Sound knowledge of variable speed drives and industrial IT systems

Experience working with SQL Servers and SCADA systems

Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols including Profibus PA/DP, AS-i, Ethernet, and DeviceNet
