Purpose of the Job:
As an Artisan Instrument Mechanician Gr2, you will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and maintaining critical plant machinery and systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Your role includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing both preventive and emergency maintenance, ensuring the continuity of operations and the achievement of business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate proven competence in plant/mine/equipment/system areas.
- Utilize the plant maintenance documentation system effectively.
- Understand and follow the work management system for planning and maintenance.
- Apply relevant plant or mine-specific process knowledge to assigned tasks.
- Ensure compliance with Safety Management Systems (e.g., IMS, MBO).
- Perform and apply emergency procedures when required.
- Conduct task risk assessments and implement safety measures.
- Participate in morning meetings to discuss and plan daily tasks.
- Provide detailed feedback to supervisors on the progress of work assignments.
- Participate in root cause analyses (RCA) and contribute to safety and efficiency improvements.
- Identify and contribute to risk assessments to enhance workplace safety.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards and adhere to waste disposal guidelines.
- Share knowledge and mentor junior artisans to promote staff development.
- Take the lead in team efforts and contribute to the overall maintenance strategy.
- Assist in developing work instructions to improve staff competency.
- Conduct physical inspections (IMS) to ensure plant sustainability and operational reliability.
- Provide feedback during toolbox talks to enhance safety and operational performance.
- Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and direction for the team.
- Ensure accurate history feedback is recorded for maintenance renewals and critical spares replacement.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12/N3 with Mathematics, English, and Physical Science.
- NQF Level 4 qualification.
- Instrument Mechanician Trade Certificate.
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in instrumentation.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
