Purpose of the Job
The Merchandise Manager at Value Logistics will oversee the Key Distributors’ Merchandise team and drive the overall buying strategy. This role demands strong leadership in developing a competitive merchandise plan, aligning product mix with market trends, and maximizing sales, margins, and stock efficiency. The manager will lead supplier negotiations, promotional planning, and ensure the merchandise strategy meets customer and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a merchandise strategy that aligns with company objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the Merchandise (Buying) team for optimal performance.
- Establish and maintain strategic supplier relationships.
- Create and implement marketing and promotional plans, including pricing and line selection.
- Set competitive pricing while achieving target margins through cost negotiations.
- Optimize product mix to meet demand and enhance competitiveness.
- Maintain a strong core merchandise range for Key Distributors’ markets.
- Monitor and adjust stock levels based on business needs and coverage targets.
- Identify new product opportunities and growth areas.
- Analyze market trends to stay ahead of competition.
- Forecast and budget merchandise needs to support growth.
- Collaborate with sales and warehouse teams for seamless operations.
- Conduct customer visits to understand market needs and strengthen market position.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- 10+ years of senior buying experience in FMCG (Food).
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
