Job Description
- Supervise, oversee, and participate in supervisory practices.
- Contribute to maintaining a financially sound and stable insurance sector and broader financial services sector.
- Assist in developing processes and procedures for the effective implementation of the Insurance Act 18 of 2017 and prudential standards.
- Assess compliance with prudential regulations and financial soundness standards.
- Implement a risk-based, pre-emptive, outcomes-driven, and integrated supervisory framework.
- Review and evaluate the adequacy of Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) submissions for insurers.
- Enhance supervisory approaches by introducing industry best practices.
- Identify cross-sectoral risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Deploy effective tools to monitor insurer exposures to key risks.
- Ensure capital and solvency requirements for assigned insurers are sufficient and appropriate.
- Assess adequacy of insurers’ risk management practices and governance structures.
- Analyze and interpret risk-based regulatory returns.
- Provide guidance to subordinates, set performance standards, and monitor outcomes.
- Contribute to prudential regulation matters concerning insurance groups.
- Support the achievement of departmental strategic objectives.
- Mentor, train, and motivate staff to meet departmental goals.
- Oversee the attainment of operational objectives.
Job Requirements
- Postgraduate qualification (NQF 8) in Accounting, Actuarial Science, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Law, or Risk Management (or related field).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the financial services sector, preferably in prudential regulation.
- At least 2 years of experience in team management or supervision.
